Traders at the Kibuye market in Kisumu want the county government to evict people who have built houses in the market. The traders also said that the county government should initiate plans to fence off the market to aid in security. “We want the county government to decongest the market and ensure that we have security measures here,” said Millicent Achieng, a tomato seller at the market in a meeting held to iron out issues with the police on Wednesday. The meeting was held to discuss the frequent criminal activity that goes on at the market. “We are exposed to very great risks as traders because of these criminals that hide here. Fencing off the place and evicting those who have houses within the market will help curb this challenge,” added Achieng. There are more than 200 people that live in the market premises. A trader, Willis Masinde, said once fenced, the market should also have designated gates to control movement. “The gates could be put up to make sure that entry and exit in the market is controlled,” he said.
