South West Kisumu ward representative Joseph Abiola said management of the city should come out and solve the market issue.

“The land is ready, I am wondering why officials from the city council are taking too long to commence work here, my people are suffering,” he said.

He said the new market will be built in a proper way and the construction of stalls and other structures must be done in accordance with the law.

The MCA told those affected with the expansion of the Kisumu-Airport road to be patient.

“I want to appeal to the affected traders to give us time as we sort out the demarcation issue of the market so that they can resume their businesses,” he said.

Speaking at Kisian market, Abiola said first priority will be given to the affected traders.

He added that he will convene a meeting bringing all the traders and ward residents to come up with the best formulae to give out stalls to the traders.

Abiola said once those affected are allocated spaces in the new market, new traders will be given space in case of more space left.
