Former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto has refuted claims that he decamped to Jubilee to secure a Cabinet appointment after losing his gubernatorial bid during the August general elections.
Speaking to the press on Monday, Rutto stated that he was not coerced into joining the ruling party, adding that the decision was informed by what he stands for.
“My ideas and principles have not changed because I support Jubilee. I am still in CCM and support development at the grassroots,” the Chama Cha Mashinani leader said.
“Free secondary education, support for the elderly and devolution, which are in the Jubilee manifesto, are similar to what I was pushing for in CCM. I will support Jubilee to ensure the leadership delivers,” he added.
Following his defection from the Opposition, speculations were rife that the former County chief was poised for a Cabinet post, reports Rutto has come out to deny.
“I supported UhuRuto in the run-up to the presidential repeat election because I know as leaders of this great nation we should be able to live together and accommodate one another. We should be able to iron out differences,” he remarked.
