A retired Administration Police officer was on Friday charged in a Nakuru for obtaining a sum of Sh200,000 from a businessman by false pretense. Simon Chege, 56, was accused by the prosecution desk before Chief Resident Magistrate Felix Kombo for obtaining money from one Caleb Ongaki on December 2 this year after promising to sell to him a Toyota Corolla car. The court heard that the accused had offered to sell the car to the complainant a week earlier pretending to be a private car before a transaction deal was struck witnessed by Nyamarambi Advocates at a hotel in Nakuru town. According to the prosecution the accused handed over to the complainant a fake log book before he received a cheque of Sh200,000 from the complainant. However the complainant was arrested by police a after a few days on claims of him stealing a car that belonged to a car hire company. However further investigations by police revealed that the complainant had been conned. The accused denied the charges and was remanded until January 20 when the case will be heard after failing to raise a cash bond of Sh200,000 or a cash bail of Sh100,000.
