The government has distanced itself from claims that it is planning to bail out struggling Nakumatt Supermarket.
This will be a huge blow to the supermarket that was banking on the state to help it rise from the close to Sh36 billion debt it is reeling in.
Cabinet Secretary for Industry, Trade and Cooperatives Aden Mohamed dismissed the reports as a mere rumour and said he was not aware of such plans.
"I have not heard about that. You could have gotten it from me,'' he said.
His ministry June this year declined Nakumatt's request for a government bail-out.
