Former Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has downplayed claims that he duplicated National Super Alliance (NASA) poll petition as he sought for the nullification of the gubernatorial results.

This is after an electoral agency claimed that the county boss had brought to the court a duplicate of a petition used by the former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga that saw the Supreme Court nullify President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win.

In a sworn affidavit, the former governor told the court that the allegations that he used the opposition leader’s petition were baseless, adding that they should not form part of the case.

He also told Justice Alfred Mabeya that claims were malicious and meant to deny him a victory that he deserved after defeating his opponent in one of the most watched contests at the county level.

He argued that his agents were barred from accessing the polling stations, which is likely to have compromised with the outcome of the election in the county.

"My agents deserved to know what was happening in all polling stations, but they were unable to access some of them," he said.

Governor Mohamed Abdi has, however, maintained that he won in a free and fair manner.
