[Photo|Mombasa County Government Watch]A former Kisumu senator was on Monday arraigned in court.Joy Gwendo (Nominated) appeared before the Anti-corruption court in Nairobi where she was charged with issuing bad cheques, theft of Sh2.2 million and abuse of office.Former Nominated Senator Joy Gwendo has been charged in an anti- corruption court with the theft of Sh2.2 million, abuse of office and issuing of bad cheques.She is alleged to have forged a cheque drawn from KCB.She is also accused of stealing Sh2,226,880 from Kisumu East Cotton Growers Co-operative Society on October 23, 2016 at Chiga Parish in Kisumu County, and issued two forged cheques to appease the farmers for Sh300,000 and Sh950,000 respectively, on December 2016.Gwendo further allegedly used her position as a senator and conferred a benefit of Sh2 million.Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi, the former Jubilee Party lawmaker was released on a Sh300,000 bond or a Sh600,000 bond after denying all the charges.The matter will be mentioned on February, 8 2018.
