Addressing journalists on Sunday after attending a funds drive at Gekano parish in Kitutu Masaba constituency, Nyakiba urged the National Assembly and the Senate to exercise caution on the party hopping clause.

He said serious aspirants who will fail to secure party tickets will be disadvantaged if the clause is effected, especially in a scenario where there will be no free and fair primaries.

Nyakiba who has announced his intentions to vie for the Nyamira gubernatorial seat in the 2017 polls said there should be a provision that will allow those who would wish to change parties after the primaries to do so freely.

"We appreciate what the team which spearheaded the reforms did, but the clause which bars politicians from switching parties after nominations is ill-informed because there should be an exit for disgruntled party members," he said.

He said the proposals which are yet to be debated in Parliament, should be tailored to factor in those who will fail to be nominated and wish to switch to different political parties.
