Former Minority Leader in the Kisumu County Assembly Phillip Edwin Anayo now says he will vie for the Migori county assembly speaker position.

This is after the Migori High Court suspended the election of Migori speaker pending the hearing of a case filed by one of the locals.

The High Court had last week ordered for a fresh election for the position of the speaker and his deputy after the earlier election was marred by violence.

Speaking to journalists in Kisumu, Anayo, who is the immediate member of county assembly for Market Milimani ward, said he is ready to vie for the position.

He said if the high court will bar the embattled speaker North Kadem MCA Boaz Okoth from vying, he will take up the challenge.

The election was supposed to take place on Thursday but was stopped by Migori High court judge Justice Hilary Chemitei, pending the hearing of the application seeking to bar Boaz Okoth from contesting on the grounds that he has not formally resigned as an elected MCA as required by law.
