Former Machakos Deputy Governor Benard Kiala has said corruption should be declared a national disaster.
Kiala said the government has not been properly handling corruption cases as expected.
"Nothing happened to previous National Youth Service looters and it won't be a surprise if nothing happens to the current ones. As a country, it's evident we have failed in fighting corruption," Kiala said.
He spoke to this writer on the phone on Tuesday.
Kiala said there is rot in almost all ministries and counties in terms of looting but it's only that the scandal hasn't surfaced.
" Currently, we don't have political leadership committed to fighting corruption, institutions have failed to curb despite efforts our hope would come through a committed leadership ready to fight corruption from the roots," Kiala said.
He said the government should declare corruption a national disaster and start national conversations on how to solve it.
Kiala made these remarks few days after Sh9 billion was reported to have been looted in the National Youth service.
