Former Riruta MCA Samwel Ndung’u is accused of being involved in the killing of his 24-year-old wife Lucy Njambi.

The prosecution had filed an application to have the accused detained saying if released, he was likely to interfere with key witnesses.

The prosecution through State Cousel Jane Maari and Njambi’s family lawyer Ndegwa Njiru had objected the accused person to be released on bond.

Prosecution Maari told the court that witnesses feel threatened if Ndung’u is released on bond adding that some of the witnesses have requested to be put under witness protection.

Kiambu High Court Judge Joel Ngugi in his Tuesday ruling granted the application and ordered that the accused be remanded in police custody until February 26 when the witnesses will testify.

In the case, Ndung’u was being accused that on January 24, 2017 he was involved in the killing of his wife, Ms Njambi at Kiambu Sub County.

The wife was abducted by a gang of men and later found at Kamiti Corner seriously injured and she was taken to Kiambu Hospital before being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where she died.

Njambi was reported to have been raped and later doused with acid by a gang of three who had picked her up from her home in Thindigua estate in Kiambu town.
