They say politics has no permanent enemies and that typically describes Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri, who shifted political allegiance in 2017 from traditional Jubilee to ODM.
A veteran politician he is, Ongeri has survived many storms including bouncing back in 2007 after challenging political heavyweight Simon Nyachae's 2002 Ford People wave.
Interestingly, Ongeri, then working as Education Minister in 2011, he would encounter rodwy ODM youths at Mosobeti Trading Center in Kitutu Masaba.
He was one of the politicians who had been dispatched by government to campaign for Walter Nyambati, who had lost poll petition to his political foe cum successor Timothy Bosire of ODM.
At the remote village, the ageing Ongeri was forced to run for his dear life as his bodyguard shot on air to scare away youths who accused him of bribing voters.
He would later hide in a local mobilisers house before Keroka police came to his rescue after several hours.
Although Nyambati would later beat Bosire in the by election, he lost two years later in 2013 General election.
Ongeri, then a staunch supporter of President Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, shocked many when he ditched Jubilee for ODM last year.
