The latest decision by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi to pledge his allegiance to the proposed opposition's 'super-alliance' is an ‘enormous’ blow to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election, says former Kitutu Masaba MP Mwancha Okioma.
Mudavadi who finished third in the 2013 presidential elections, pledged to work with the opposition recently, a few years after entering a post-election pact with President Uhuru.
And Okioma on Sunday said the move would sabotage Uhuru's re-election given the instrumental role Mudavadi played in the 2013 polls.
“Mudavadi played an instrumental role for Uhuru’s election in 2013. He invaded Raila’s strongholds and helped to some extent, Uhuru’s camp. His popularity may have grown since then and this is not good news for Uhuru,” he said.
“It’s an enormous blow given the corruption in Uhuru's government and that could further downsize his voting bloc. The super alliance, regardless of the flag bearer, is going to change the campaigns and that is for sure,” he added.
Okioma also likened the 2017 elections to the 2007 polls that saw a fierce contest between retired President Mwai Kibaki and Raila.
