Former Bonchari constituency MP Protus Kebati has rubbished Madaraka day celebrations.
The former MP said Kenyans have nothing to celebrate about due to the increased levels of corruption.
“The government is wasting a lot of money organizing celebrations yet the same government is unable to end corruption. The celebrations are meant to waste the country’s resources and time,” he said.
Kebati stated that tax payers’ money is wasted on celebrations which don’t benefit common citizens.
“Money paid as tax by common citizens is being wasted and some individuals pockets through dubious means. It is time the government should stop spending too much on celebrations which will not change the lives of people,” he added.
The soft spoken politician suggested that the money being used to organize such celebration should be used to fund various development projects across the country.
He said that corrupt officials in government are using such celebrations to steal funds in the name of organizing for unnecessary celebrations.
Kebati said Kenyans in the future should not close their businesses to attend such celebrations.
He was speaking at Gesero market in Bomariba ward on Friday.
