Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr. Ochieng' Owili has officially opened Lemigo Supermarket in Kondele. The Kenya Sh20 million supermarket is owned by seven former Nakumatt employees.
The former employees were among hundreds of Nakumatt employees who were sacked after the retailer's Kisumu branch was shut.The seven said the did not count their losses or lament after losing their jobs, but pooled resources and decided to establish a supermarket in the region.
The choice of setting up the supermarket in Kondele puts Kisumu on the map as a city full of investors confidence, according to Owili.
"The county government of Kisumu led by Prof. Anyang' Nyong'o lauds the team that came up with this noble idea. His government fully supports this great initiative," said Owili.
Also in attendance was Trade and Industry CeC - Alice Moraa, Economic Planning and Development CeC - Richard Ogendo, Railway ward MCA David Arao and Kondele ward MCA Joachim Oketch (Swagger).
