Former Nyali MP Hezron Awiti says he will run for Mombasa governorship again in 2022.
He said this was his first attempt at governorship and thus will not just give up yet.
“I will not surrender. How many times has Raila Odinga lost and he still fights? This was only my first loss,” Awiti told the Star on the phone on Wednesday.
“The loss hasn’t affected me at all. Any outcome was expected. We're rectifying mistakes as we plan for 2022,” he added.
The Vibrant Democratic Party candidate in the just-concluded August 8 general election said he will now be Mombasa’s main opposition leader so as to put Governor Hassan Joho in check.
He told the daily he will take 90 days out of the limelight as he reflects and assesses his defeat in the polls.
“We’ll evaluate the work of every campaigner we employed,” he stated.
Awiti, Hassan Omar of Wiper Party, Jubilee’s Suleiman Shahbal and Daniel Kitsao of Kadu Asili were seeking to unseat Joho in the elections.
