A former policeman facing murder charges on Monday moved before a Nairobi Court seeking acquittal.

Titus Musila, alias Katitu who was attached to Kasarani Police Station is being charged with allegedly killing Kenneth Kimani and his brother Oscar Muchoki in 2014 in Githurai.

Musila who is charged with allegations of extra-judicial killing told the court that he did nothing wrong and the court should acquit him from the murder charges.

During the Monday testimony, the accused person wondered why his colleagues were not called to testify in the case.

He said on a material day, he was on patrol with two constables and only intervened in a robbery incident as he had done on many occasions when they received a distress call.

The former officer said as he was approaching the bus station, he noticed a matatu that had been raided by robbers and he chased the deceased when they attempted to escape.

He shot in the air and ordered him to stop but he didn’t and then heard gunshots. By the time he finally caught up with him, he was on the ground bleeding.

Musila, a popular former crime-buster said the state has failed to prove that he was responsible for Kimani’s death adding that he had nothing to do with the killing as the bullet did not come from his gun.

He now plays in a band and further said that he belonged to the SPIV, a squad formed to fight crime in Githurai following complaints from the public.

When the former officer was arrested in 2014, residents of Githurai 45 blocked Thika Road in a protest demanding his release.

He had become a darling of locals for fighting crime.
