A former police officer Titus Musila Katitu charged with the murder of a 27 year old man in Githurai in 2014 has been convicted to 15 years in jail.
Milimani High Court Judge James Wakiaga on Thursday sentenced Katitu to 15 years in jail after he found him guilty of murder.
In his sentence, Justice Wakiaga ruled that the former police officer will serve 12 years in custody and 3 years in probation.
Wakiaga also ruled that the four years the convict has been in custody to be considered in his sentence.It now means that the 45 year old will serve eight years in prison.
“The prosecution has proven beyond reasonable doubt that the accused intentionally killed the deceased (Kennedy Mwangi),” Wakiaga said in his sentence.
Katitu was arrested and charged with murder of 27 year old suspect in Githurai in 2014.
Githurai residents had appealed to the Court to free Katitu, saying he did not intentionally kill the deceased.
The locals in a plea to court described Katitu as an industrious police officer who was keen on fighting criminals.
