Flying squad officers on Friday arrested a former Recce Squad officer who is alleged to been behind last month's foiled attack on the headquarters in Ruiru.

Eric Ngethe was arrested in Ganjoni area, Mombasa following intelligence reports.

Confirming the arrest, Mombasa county police commander Peterson Maelo stated that the suspect was taken to Mombasa Central police station awaiting court appearance.

The officer who deserted duty in 2014 is said to have been radicalized by Al-Shabaab and he was in the process of planning an attack.

Ngethe escaped an operation targeting him on August 4, 2016 but three AK 47 rifles and 178 bullets were recovered from his Githurai house.
