A former chairman of Moi University students has died at a Kisumu hospital.
Florence Doghana, popularly referred to as Mr President, last evening succumbed to pneumonia at Maseno mission hospital, a family source said.
Doghana served as the chairman of Moi University Students' Organisation (MUSO) in the 2012/2013 academic year.
Eldoret-based Moi University community has expressed shock over the unexpected loss of the former leader.
George Bush, the chairman of Moi University's constitutional review team explained his last moments with Doghana:
"On the day, I was to relocate to Nairobi permanently, that is Thursday, I decided to call him but he couldn't talk properly," the fourth-year student said.
"I quickly postponed my journey and went to Chulaimbo where he instructed me he was. When I saw him, I remained quiet for five minutes. The rest is history. Three days after a call comes in, he could neither eat or talk, twenty minutes later Doghana dead."
Patrick Makumi, a former MUSO finance director aspirant, recalled Mr President's mastery of the Queen's language.
"I remember in 2012 when I joined Moi university, he was so eloquent at the students centre and now sad news comes here," he said.
Mwamburi Mwambeo, who Doghana succeeded as the MUSO boss, remembered the late's words to him: "Igwe, I'm immortal you know. Moi University will never frustrate the giant in me plus, all these are matters of fate."
"This man formed part of my life history. He had a good English. May God give his closest friends and immediate colleagues longer life," said Ochelle Ochelle, a former student at Moi University.
The death of Doghana comes months after the passing away of Obilo K'Obilo, another former influential student leader, who served as the chairman of the students' electoral commission.
