Emphasising that all efforts will be made to ensure that the process is above board, Matiang’i assured school heads that the marking will be carried out fairly and that students will get credible grades.

“Take it from me, frankly, when you see me at the containers (where exam papers are stored) at 5am in the morning, you cannot imagine that we are going to drop the ball at marking. We are going to manage that too with military precision and we will make sure it is done effectively,” said Matiang'i on Thursday at Wamagana.

Matiang’i was in Tetu and Nyeri town dispatching the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam papers.

He added: “There is no room for jokes this time because we must make sure that our children get the grades they deserve. Honest, genuine, credible grades. That is how we can move forward together."

Matiang'i complimented school heads and teachers for their commitment in ensuring exams run smoothly. The marking of Kenya Primary School Education(KCPE) examination papers is currently underway amid tight security to protect the integrity of the whole process.

More than 5,000 examiners are marking the papers in Nairobi, Murang’a and Kiambu Counties.
