Child development stages [photo/ugc.futurelearn.com]A baby’s social skills begin to develop immediately after he is born. They begin to make brief eye contact, start recognizing voices and then visual tracking begins.
These skills will continue to develop throughout the child’s life. Below are tips for developing your child’s social.
From 0-3 months
Stick out your tongue while smiling at your child, and wait for a response. Hold up simple toys as well, and move them slowly from side to side. Remember that babies this young are often overstimulated, therefore, follow their cues.
At 4-6 months
They begin to smile at your face, stare at their own hands and get excited at the sight of a favorite toy. They will begin to shake a rattle and when placed on a play mat, they will likely be busy for 10-15 minutes.
At 7-9 months
This is a big developmental stage as they begin to realize that objects still exist even though they don’t see them. For example, if you hide a toy, they will still cry for it. Babies at this age also begin to imitate hand gestures such as clapping and waving bye-bye.
At 10-12 months
At this age, babies begin to learn cause and effect. They become aware of pushing or throwing the ball back and forth. They will also start to dance at this stage, so musical toys are always fun. Many also begin walking in this age range, so quiet play is less frequent. Don’t forget to read more books.
From13-15 months
At this age, babies begin to put in toys and dump it out over and over again. They may also become attached to blankets or teddies. When they do, stuffed toys are always fun to play with.
You can also start playing make-believe games, which your baby will find entertaining.
