Gor Mahia Football Club, commonly also known as K'Ogalo (Luo for "House of Ogalo"), is a football club based in Nairobi, Kenya.
They have won the Kenyan Premier League a record 16 times, three more than their arch-rivalsA.F.C. Leopards and have also won the FKF President's Cup a record 10 times.
They are the only team from Kenya and the CECAFA region to win an African continental title to date, having won the African Cup Winners' Cup in 1987 after previously reaching the final in 1979.
Gor Mahia was formed in Tom Mboya's house, who was was a Kenyan trade unionist, educationist, Pan Africanist, author, independence activist, Cabinet Minister and one of the founding fathers of the Republic of Kenya.
Tom Mboya served as minister for justice and constitutional affairs, minister for labour and minister for economic planning and development. In the past years before Gor Mahia came up there was two football teams in Luo Nyanza, Luo Union and Luo sports.
Luo Union FC was successful but after their success players started rubbing shoulders which lead to split. Some players split and formed Luo Sports club. In 1966 Luo union FC missed playing the league as Luo Sports Club outshined them.
Towards the end of 1967, Luo Union FC officials approached Tom Mboya to discuss unifying the two rivals teams. Meetings went down in Tom Mboya's house. On February 17, 1968 consensus was arrived between Luo Union and Luo Sports club factions to form a one unified team.
Several names were proposed for the unified team including Luanda Magere and Nile Stars. At last, the name Gor Mahia was settled on.
