During his tour to Kisii and Nyamira Counties, Deputy President William Ruto made an impromptu stopover at a roadside hotel on the way to South Mugirango where he attended several functions.

In the company of Kisii Governor James Ongwae and Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka, Ruto ordered for tea and Chapatis just like his hosts.

The country's second most powerful man was seen cracking jokes and emphasizing need to boost small scale enterprises.

"Friday is the day that I will be remembering forever. At first I thought I was day dreaming when I saw him come with his other guests," said Alice Nyanchama, the owner of the makeshift hotel.

She added: "I served them even though I was a bit nervous. He gave me Sh5,000 cash while Ongwae and Onyonka gave me Sh2,000 each."

According to her, several guests would follow later and until she ran out of stock forcing her to close down the business before time.

Both Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta are synonymous for impromptu visits to businesses owned by 'poor' Kenyans.

The DP later left for South Mugirango and was accompanied with a host of leaders from across Gusii region.
