Over the weekend, Orengo claimed that Raila will be on ballot in 2022, remarks that sparked heated debate among Jubilee politicians who asked for review of March 9 handshake.

And on Citizen TV, Malala, the firebrand Kakamega senator said Raila called Orengo over the matter and made his position clear.

"Orengo was expressing his own sentiments and was not speaking on behalf of Raila. The Prime Minister is committed to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta to unite this nation.

"I can confirm that Raila called Orengo and asked him to drop the 2022 debate. He made it clear that he is not interested at all asked the senator to desist from campaigning for him," he said.

For the better part of Sunday, Jubilee politicians accused Raila of insincerity in his deal with Uhuru, with some saying that the former PM is keen to distabilise Jubilee from within.

While it is not clear what role Raila is playing in government, it is however understood that he is closely working with the president.
