After days of vicious attacks on President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga's secretive peace deal, Siaya senator James Orengo may now join the bandwagon.
Despite backing the deal at first, Orengo made a U-turn during Miguna Miguna's saga with some pundits claiming that the criticism emanated from his omission in the deal.
"Raila cannot be part of impunity after spending his entire life fighting for justice. We shall cancel the deal if Jubilee cannot change their mindset," he had said.
What followed was dramatic coup in the Senate in which he ousted Moses Wetangula from Senate Minority Leadership against Raila's wishes.
And after months of rebellion, an insider says, Raila briefed Orengo bit by bit the content of his deal with Uhuru at Opoda Farm on Monday.
"They had a length talk on building bridges and Raila was open to him. They discussed about the impending joint trips between Raila and Uhuru.
"Also, Raila asked him to prepare senators on a possibility to amend the constitution to change the leadership structure as part of inclusiveness in the deal. He was also tasked to organise rallies in NASA counties for Raila to pass the message to his supporters," said the source.
In the dugouts of the Devolution Conference in Kakamega on Tuesday, Orengo had swiftly changed tune, insisting that implementation was at the design stage.
"I was only concerned with Jubilee's continued habit of breaking the law and nothing else. The handshake will work. Those drafting the process are at the design stage," he said.
