Businessmen in Kisii Daraja Mbili market now want the county government to expand the Kisii- Kisumu highway to allow easy flow of traffic to ease business and transport services.
Daraja mbili which is one of the largest markets in Nyanza region is located a few metres from Kisii town along the Kisii-Kisumu highway.
This has caused a lot of congestion between traders and motorists as the road used is too narrow.
Traffic builds up every market day on the two kilometers stretch for hours causing a delay in delivery of products and increased traveling time.
Traders and motorists want the county government and the National Highways Authority to expand the road to ease transport.
"This road serves hundreds of people in a single day, revenues are collected from our businesses but the county government has done nothing to expand it," a business lady said.
The poor state of the market has also contributed to this challenge as businessmen sell right beside the road, therefore, posing dangers to themselves and the road users.
Our efforts to talk to the Construction and Roads department in Kisii Town failed.
