On Thursday, the contractors demarcated buildings that should be eliminated as the Nyamira County government moves to improve the infrastructure of the region for easy transit of farm products given the county hugely depends on agriculture.

Speaking to the writer, victims expressed their dissatisfaction with the way the entire exercise was conducted, arguing that they should be compensated.

“This is completely inhumane and on behalf of the victims, I condemn it with the strongest terms possible. They are doing things with a lot of impunity without giving prior information,” said former councillor William Kaka.

“They deserve compensation since there is no evidence that the land belongs to the government. The exercise should be halted till we find an amicable solution,” he added.

However, area MCA Alfayo Mwongeresa said that the project was legitimate and those affected had built along the road contrary to the law.

“It is quite unfortunate that people are complaining when such a project is initiated in our region. It is clear that they had contravened the law by building along the road. I, however, appeal to them to calm as we seek to find the best solution in a bid to ensure that all is settled without causing losses,” he said.
