According to Kiambu County Roads and Transport executive Eng. Njeri Mburu, the expansion work is expected to kick off by June this year, and will be done in conjunction with Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).

"We have heard the cry of Thika residents and businessmen about the poor state of roads in the town and also traffic jams they experience as they enter or leave the town, and that is why we are joining hands with KURA to make the roads better for them," said Njeri.

Among the road sections to be expanded to become a dual carriage are Gatitu Junction, off Garissa Road towards Tuskys Supermarket Thika, which is notorious for traffic.

"We will also repair Kenyatta Avenue near the bridge which has become so bad," she added.

Njeri said that the survey and design work is underway, so that the contractors will be on the job by the specified time.

The executive was speaking on Thursday at her Kiambu office.
