More investors have been invited to Kisumu City to invest in the hospitality industry owing to the strategic location of the city.
Israel Agina, Director Business Development and Membership Kisumu chamber of Commerce and Industry said the lakeside city is the gate way to East Africa.
Agina said the hotel industry has picked up well and called for more investors to benefit from the strategic location of the lakeside city.
He lauded the locals from Kisumu County for venturing into the hotel industry.
“What is inspiring is that the people of Kisumu have come out to invest in the hotel industry. That will inspire our young people to follow suit and do greater investments in the county,” he said.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Wednesday on the status of doing business in Kisumu city, Agina said the bed capacity has increased and Kisumu can host all sorts of conferences pointing out the recent Devolution Conference.
Mr Agina who is also the chairman of the Kisumu Water and Sewerage Services Company said in the recent past Kisumu was lacking enough beds that could host conferences.
“Hotels like Royal City is expanding and right now they are putting up a four star hotel in the city that will provide more jobs to our people and scale up the economy of the county,” he said.
He said the city is now only grappling with insecurity issues that might affect the economy of the region.
Mr Agina said the security docket was retained in the national government and urged the locals to work closely with the police to be able to deal with criminals.
“This issue of insecurity should be tackled will all stakeholders in the city. The city will only thrive if there is proper security. We have had insecurity issues within the residential estates and that will only scare away investors,” he said.
