According to the nursing officer in charge at the hospital, Alphaxard Kemboi, 10-year-old learner was referred to hospital from Valley Hospital where he had been taken from Greensteds International School.

Kemboi said the minor had a headache, fever and vomiting when he sought medication at the school’s dispensary, prompting the school nurse to refer him to Valley hospital.

The nurse said the minor and her mother had allegedly tried to enter Kenya through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) but were denied entry at the airport nine days ago.

It is then that the two headed to Burundi and managed to fly into the country on Monday.

Kemboi said samples from the minor have been taken to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) for testing and are expecting the results today.

The minor and the school nurse have been quarantined at the hospital’s eye unit with a response team from the hospital on standby.
