According to the experts, most of the riders are allegedly ignorant and unschooled of vital road rules, a reason for their occasional untimely deaths from road accidents.

Peter Onchwari, a retired traffic officer said due to the rising number of motorcycles in the town, the county government should strictly order the riders to enrol for expert training on road safety measures.

"The town is so littered with motorcycles with some operators speeding with deadly road rage.Ongwae's government should order every rider to undergo an expert training on road safety and traffic rules and get certified," he said.

Stanislaus Sorobi, a 30-year-old bus driver on Kisii-Mombasa travel route has faulted the riders on poor overtaking stunts and said they should be licensed.

"These riders are always toying with their lives on the road. They don't know how to read indicators but just rush through at a sizeable passage. If they get road licence, then road deaths will drastically fall," he said.

The National Transport Service Authority (NTSA) has intensified road safety measures, but latest road reports indicate 2,164 people have lost their lives this year on road.
