A group of entrepreneurs, academicians and economists have called for the establishment of a Central Bank branch in Kisii town given its fast growth and expansion of economic opportunities. If their concerns are heard by the national government in Nairobi, the South Nyanza town will be the second in the entire western region to get the privilege after Kisumu. According to them, the town was growing faster with businesses blossoming, making an average businessperson to employ up to 100 people. Benjamin Siika, a commerce lecturer at Kisii University, said the town presented good opportunities for upcoming investors and other business-oriented minds. “This idea is long overdue. Kisii town is a fast growing place with businesses thriving. Money circulation is at a high speed compared even to Kisumu. Many people are business-oriented and they truly deserve a Central Bank branch,” he said. His sentiments were supported by Dr Peter Ngacho from the same institution, who attributed blossoming of businesses to increasing number of institutions. “Institutions of higher learning are in town and hence the population is growing exponentially. Businesses are thriving due to high demand of commodities,” he said. Dominic Asande, a business consultant, said introduction of CBK to the town will see a number of learned youths get employment. “We deserve a CBK branch here. Normally we look at money circulation and it seems to be high compared to other places. If brought, many investors will be attracted to the region hence accelerating growth,” he said.
