A section of female university students from Nyamira want an explanation from the Tourism Board of Kenya on the criteria used to choose Maureen Ngoro to represent the county in the Miss Tourism finals in Vihiga County.
It is claimed that Ngoro is among beauties from other counties in the boot camp till Friday before going on stage in a bid to clinch the Miss Tourism title this year.
The students who were led by Jackline Kemuma claimed there were no Miss Tourism auditions in Nyamira and wondered how Miss Ngoro was selected.
"TBK should explain to Nyamirans how Ngoro's selection was reached at because we have been waiting to participate in the auditions in our county which have not been forthcoming. We are surprised to be told to vote for Ngoro who will compete in the finals to be held in Vihiga County," said Kemuma.
She further noted that it is wrong for somebody to represent the county without following the due process of the competition.
"This is corruption being done in day broad. How can somebody sit the final exams without attending class?" posed Kemuma.
Earlier last year, the county government through the then Minister for Trade Jonnes Omwenga said Nyamira would be holding the Miss Tourism competitions once every two years to give the one in office time to deliver her manifesto.
Currently, the Miss Tourism Nyamira County crown is held by Everline Arasa.
