Renowned Kenyan news anchor and talk show host Larry Madowo has over the years tried to cultivate a reputation for independent journalism but that reputation appears to be under vicious attack.
Madowo now finds himself in the cross-hairs of a former U.S marine Andrew Franklin who has rubbished claims that Larry is a morally upright and independent journalist, saying that the former NTV journalist lacks moral integrity.
Andrew Franklin, who now plies his trade as an expert and television commentator on security matters after a long stint in the Marines, has come out with earth-shattering revelations that put into question claims by Madowo's fans that he exercised an independent mind while at NTV.
In 2015, the ex-serviceman claims he was blacklisted by unidentified members of NTV's decision-making board and his calls to Larry for an explanation went an unanswered,
''He solicited my appearances but when NTV blacklisted me in August 2015 refused to take phone calls or respond to emails; absolutely lacking in moral courage and integrity! Madowo lacks integrity and moral courage; a self serving media celebrity!?! Perfect for our times? '' a seething Andrew Franklin wrote on social media.
''When I was blacklisted by NTV in August 2015 Larry Madowo would never accept my calls nor respond to emails asking for reasons for my exclusion. To date he has no idea that he was complicit in my shabby and completely undeserved treatment by his masters at NMG!?! Typical KE Zombie Media Silhouette! Shame...'' he said in another post.
The vicious attack comes in the wake of Larry's dramatic resignation from NTV, fueling speculation that he may be headed for international journalism.
Franklin has appeared on a number of mainstream television stations to share his perspective on a wide array of security issues.
Larry Madowo has not yet responded to the damaging allegations leveled against him.
Kenya's mainstream media stations have in recent weeks come under intensive scrutiny over allegations of operating in a straitjacket and being puppets of the government, allegations that they have styrongly rejected.
