Cases of abortions have been on the rise in most Kenyan Universities. This comes as a no surprise as most of the students engage in sex which results in unwanted pregnancies.

Going by the statistics collected from clinics which operate at Moi University, Talai market center, 80 percent of first years who go for pregnancy tests, turn out positive. This is followed by 2nd and 3rd-year students respectively.

In a 10 minutes video clip, a doctor who has been offering abortion services to students across Uasin Gishu county is seen giving the services to a student from Moi University.

The doctor, who did not know he was being recorded, said he receives a minimum of 15 students who want to carry out abortion per day.

The charges range from as cheap as Sh2,000 to Sh6,000 depending on the age of the pregnancy.

"Our prices are very affordable since your pregnancy is only one month old. I will charge you Sh2000," the doctor tells the lady in the video clip.

For those in their early stages, the doctor says he gives them abortion pills which he does not store in the clinic for security reasons.

But if the pregnancy is beyond six months, the doctor explains that he refers the patient to one of their branches at Kapsabet town where the abortion is done through surgery.

The doctor who appears to be in his late 70s while trying to win his patient's trust goes ahead to reveal that he had given a student at the university the abortion pills earlier on that day.

"You need not worry. This is something that I do every day. In fact, today morning I gave a student from Moi University the pills," he said, and true to his word, just a day after the recording of the video, an aborted fetus was found in one of the ladies hostels known as Hostel L.

The doctor also admitted that he has been doing the illegal business for over 12 years with a majority of his customers being university students from within Eldoret town.

This is just one out of the many doctors who carry out abortions at Kesses where Moi University main campus is situated.

Abortion has no doubt become one of the most lucrative businesses across Kenyan Universities and it is surprising how such an illegal act is committed in broad daylight.
