Deputy President William Ruto has rolled out a master plan in a bid to control a section of Nyanza region, an area that has been for a long time controlled by Raila Odinga.
With President Uhuru Kenyatta set for retire, the DP seems to have decided to take the bull by its horns by trying on his own.
Multiple interviews with highly places sources indicate that the DP is silently working on on a formula of controlling the Gusii region, which comprises of Kisii and Nyamira Counties with an estimated voting population of 1 million.
"We shall be having a meeting before the end of this month. The main agenda will be about Gusii unity. We must all move together," said North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko.
Controversial Borabu MP Ben Momanyi was even more categorical. According to him, a single party from the region would consolidate the voting pattern of the region.
"A single party would ensure that we shall also wait for good offers. The party would help us move as a team."
Behind the scenes, Ruto is said to be bankrolling the unity and last Thursday, he had met at least all elected leaders from the region.
To confuse competitors, a source adds, Ruto has summoned elders from the region and asked them to convene another meeting by the end of the month that will bring together all political players.
Apparently, the region has been going without a spokesperson after the retirement of Simon Nyachae, who has since been taken ill in London.
