With the plane having been cleared for late take off and subsequently lack of landing space at Wilson, the Control had to direct Captain Barbara Kamau top JKIA East Wing which she was to approach from the Northern Side.

Apparently, she was not familiar with Aberdares a reason which led to bitter exchanges between her and the Air Controller.

"She was directed to Aberdares and she had a bitter exchange with the controller. She, however, agreed to proceed after assurance that she would be guided through," she says.

"Unfortunately, Wilson signals are weak at Aberdares and the controller took long to hand over the plane to JKIA and this is where signals were lost.

"She was now flying blind and she couldn't fly higher because Emirates and Etihad were above and she didn't know where she was," she adds.

By the time Wilson handed over the plane to JKIA, she says, the guide could not locate Barbara who had since lost control and crashed.

However, according to an official statement by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, the plane lost control due to poor weather at the Aberdares.
