At a night meeting held in one of Mombasa hotels last week, Joho is said to have been hesitant to reconcile with Uhuru after months of confrontations.

"Joho had raised concerns about the visit of the president given the last outing in the county. He feared a similar humiliation.

"However, Raila held a meeting with him and explained why he had to support the president's efforts to unite the country. That is when Joho agreed to show up," said a source in confidence.

Last year, Uhuru had Joho's guards withdrawn besides barring him from attending his functions at the Coast.

On Thursday, Uhuru reportedly said he will support the governor's development agenda adding that he does not have grudge with any leader.

"The president was categorical that he will work with all leaders to foster growth. He does not have any grudge with Joho," said Felix Mariera, a confidant of Joho.

According to the source, Raila highlighted a number of projects that the government would revive in Mombasa in a two-hours meeting.
