Slightly a month after the famous handshake, ODM leader Raila Odinga held a secret meeting with Musalia Mudavadi at his Opoda Farm in Siaya in mid April, something that may have changed the latter's heart.

Before that, Mudavadi along with Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula moved across the Western region condemning Raila's decision to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta alone.

"They met and discussed the reason behind the handshake. Mudavadi is a flexible leader and changed his mind immediately after the meeting," an ODM official told the writer in confidence.

While Mudavadi now is fully supporting Raila's handshake with Uhuru, NASA co-principal Moses Wetangula has openly opposed it while Kalonzo Musyoka remains unpredictable.

And on Friday, Mudavadi backed Raila's calls for referendum which is said to be targeting to change governance system from presidential to parliamentary setup.

"Time has come for us to promote equity to all communities. An amendment to the constitution will obviously help a lot. We must fix this problems now," he said in Raila's support.

The ODM official claimed that Raila elaborated his intention to quit politics after the referendum that would see the country introduce a powerful Prime Minister position.

It is the night meeting that reduced pressure within NASA coalition, which had been championed by Mudavadi and in which Raila ran for president as representative in August 2017.

Raila's reconciliation with Mudavadi has revamped relationship between ODM and ANC, a move that saw Secretary Generals from the respective parties, Edwin Sifuna and Godfrey Osostsi hold joint rallies in Samburu on Saturday.
