As part of dealing with his 2022 possible competitors in the presidential race, Deputy President William Ruto is said o have laid down a hot of strategies to make his road smooth.
With President Uhuru Kenyatta set to exit the scene, Ruto is however worried of the handshake between his boss and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Lately, Raila has been holding high profile delegations with his Friday's meeting with grand coalition partner Mwai Kibaki increasing anxiety among his political competitors.
As part of the wider scheme to frustrate Raila, a source has revealed, Ruto is keen to have Jubilee MPs pass the age limit petition that was submitted by Mohammad Sheikh.
"Of course he is strongly supporting the petition and hopes it to sail through. At the moment, Raila remains his major headache," said a Nyamira politician, who enjoys close relationship with Ruto.
Should the petition pass, Raila will be the automatic casualty since only candidates below 70 years will be allowed to contest. By then, Raila will be 77.
Besides the age limit, Ruto is said o be working around the clock to frustrate a parliamentary system of government in which Raila is said to be strongly supporting.
As part of crumbling the move, the source adds, Ruto has set mechanisms to sabotage the bill by Tiaty MP Willaim Kamket which is due to be tabled.
"He has his troops in parliament and I don't think the bill will have an allocation for referendum. That will automatically thwart plans of those pushing for a plebiscite."
While addressing residents of Eldoret on Sunday, a furious Ruto vowed to fight back attempts to change the constitution in which presidency will be assigned auxiliary role.
In an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, Kamket accused unnamed forces of sabotaging his bill by delaying allocations in parliament.
