Two days prior to nullification of his victory by the Supreme Court, President Uhuru Kenyatta warned his deputy William Ruto against early campaigns in his second term, reports the Nation.
In the recent weeks, Uhuru's decision to work with his political nemesis has even worsened the situation within Jubilee as Ruto's loyalists demands that he declares his favourite candidate in public.
"The president should come out clear and tell us if he still supports Ruto. We must do away with this culture of betrayal," said Belgut MP Nelson Koech.
And at a funeral to veteran politician Kenneth Matiba, Uhuru insisted that he will not tolerate early campaigns adding that they would sabotage service delivery.
During the State House meeting, a Jubilee MP from Kakamega says, Uhuru insisted that he will fight back attempts by his Jubilee wing to start early campaigns.
"He stated categorically at State House that he will fight back very hard against early campaigns. He said all these in Ruto's presence," said the MP.
Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu backs the Kakamega MP's remarks adding that the president had asked for 'four years of calm and stability'.
"The president told the DP off to his face that he won't allow early campaign. Ruto's people who are campaigning are essentially stirring conflict between the two," he said.
While Ruto has not openly campaigned for 2022 pols, he has however insisted that he would not allow anybody to shortchange his 2022 bid.
