The controversial debate on uniting Gusii community behind a single party dominated meeting between Deputy President William Ruto and Kisii Governor James Ongwae.
After the closed door meeting, which was also attended by Ongwae's deputy Joash Maangi, Ruto however narrowed it down to a development conversation.
"I was privileged to meet Governor Ongwae and Maangi today. We discussed about the four agendas," he wrote.
Apparently, Ongwae and Maangi along with Nyamira county boss John Nyagarama were among who opposed ideas to form a single political party in the name of Gusii unity in May, an agenda which Ruto is said to have sponsored.
But the ODM governor is said to have embraced the idea after the lengthy Karen meeting in which sources say that Ruto also tasked Ongwae to unite the community.
"The DP is keen to have Gusii community voting as a bloc and that is why he summoned the two. They agreed to work together.
"In the coming days, a single party could be established in Gusii which would spearhead the agenda of the community according to DP's wishes," said a source.
The last time the community galvanised support for a single presidential candidate was in 2002 when Simon Nyachae contested.
In the meeting, Ongwae is said to have agreed to work together with Gusii elders to spearhead the agenda.
