Teachers in Uasin Gishu county have asked the Ministry of Education to extend the deadline for submitting data for all learners in primary and secondary schools.
They claim the government is overworking them with fewer goodies.
According to the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Chepkoilel branch secretary general Sammy Bor, the school heads will not obtain the requirements for registering pupils by then, saying it will be practically impossible to meet the deadline.
"It has been difficult for parents to obtain birth certificates for their children and they are still queuing at registration offices in search of birth certificates,” said the Chepkoilel branch KNUT boss in his office, Wednesday.
"I therefore call upon the government to increase the deadline for more students to be registered since teachers are busy collecting data for NEMIS at the expense of attending to learners," Bor added.
He asked the state to employ more staff at births and deaths registration offices and further devolve it to ward levels.
Bor further called for priority to be given vulnerable school children who were seeking the certificates on their own.
School heads have until the end of this month to submit the data for over 8 million learners through the National Education Management Information Systems (NEMIS).
