Fafi Constituency Member of Parliament Elyas Bare Shill has told the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to extend the ongoing mass voter registration exercise by a month for those pastoralists affected by the countywide drought or get sued.
Shill said that so far, there is low turnout number for the exercise by the pastoralists as they have migrated in search of water and pasture for their animals as a result of drought.
“Why is voter registration done when there is drought and hunger? We are starving and thirsty. We need food, water and medicine to be distributed to Marsabit, Turkana, Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, Baringo counties. We cannot register and vote when we are dead,” Shill told the media at Parliament Buildings.
Shill also ordered Devolution CS Mwangi Kiunjuri and his fellow CS for water Eugene Wamalwa to distribute food and water to the affected people.
