Another case of suspected police extra-judicial killing has been reported after a woman, her son and the son's friend were shot dead in Gathiga village in the outskirts of Nairobi.
According to witnesses, a group of men invaded the family home on Saturday and sprayed bullets into the three, killing them all on the spot.
Reports from the Star indicate that the cartridges recovered were confirmed to have been government-issued since they are the same that are given to the police and the military.
24-year-old James Ndung’u had been taken home on a bodaboda by his 19-year-old friend Peter Waweru and were in the house with Hannah Mumbi (Ndung'u's mother) when the group came in and shot them.
On Thursday, Ndung’u had been arrested in the village and beaten senseless by people identified as police officers.
Detective officers from King’eero DCI have recorded statements from relatives concerning the murders but police are yet to arrest any suspect.
A neighbour of Mumbi’s said there was commotion at her house on the fateful night, saying that she was heard screaming and shouting after the unknown people raided her house.
“She was shouting that no one was to leave the house on that night,” the neighbour said as reported by the Star.
It was after this that the gunshots rang out.
