Garissa County IEBC coordinator Antony Njoroge has assured residents in Garissa County that enough security will be provided ahead of the August 8 General Election.
Njoroge said that he has requested for more security officers to man IEBC polling stations and protect officials involved in the exercise.
He said the commission is not taking any chances hence the request for reinforcement from area police commander to ensure that all the polling stations in Garissa will be adequately protected.
Njoroge said that security agencies will also beef up security in Garissa to protect the residents and to also ensure peace and tranquility prevails during the election period.
“I want to assure aspirants and the residents of the county that we are determined to conduct a free, fair and transparent election,” said the IEBC coordinator.
Garissa Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Hiddi Galgalo had urged the residents and the aspirants to continue working closely with the security apparatus and key stakeholder in ensuring that peace prevails during the elections.
