Optica, a leading optometrist has opened its second branch in Eldoret bringing its branches across the country to 32.
The branch that will be at the Eldoret’s Rupa’s mall will be offering eye tests and the widest range of spectacles (glasses), sunglasses, and contact lenses.
Speaking during the opening of the branch on Wednesday, Optica head of retail Wazem Mohammed called for the establishment of an authority that will help regulate optical services in the country.
Mohammed expressed concerns that the sector is not currently regulated exposing citizens seeking optical services to the risk of getting wrong advice and spectacles.
“Many of those providing these services are not qualified personals which put millions of Kenyans at risk of possible wrong diagnostic to different eye problems,” Mohammed said.
“The eye is an important and sensitive part of the body that need to be given the attention it deserves just lie the other ailments. Having the regulatory body will go a long way to streamlining these services,” he added.
Optica now has at least two branches in each of all the major towns in the country and 15 branches in the country’s capital, Nairobi.
