Ruto was presiding over fundraising functions in Gilgil and Nakuru Town West on Saturday.

However, unlike other functions he has attended in the county, Saturday's functions were boycotted by several MPs and it is not clear whether it was by design or they were busy elsewhere.

First to raise eyebrows were Kuresoi North and South MPs Ben Cheboi and Joseph Tunoi.

The two are considered Ruto's close allies and trusted politician friends in the region.

"It is surprising that for the first time Kalenjin MPs from Nakuru have given Ruto's function a wide berth. This is not by default," Hillary Kiprotich said.

Another MP who boycotted the function is Molo's Kuria Kimani.

A close confidant of the MP said that he was attending a harambee in his constituency.
