Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka has urged Kenyans to turn up in large numbers during this year's Mashujaa day celebrations that will be held at Machakos stadium on Thursday this week.
The MP said that preparations for the national fete that will be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta are almost complete.
Munyaka said that it is an honour for the county to host the national fete.
"We are happy that President Kenyatta gave us the privilege of hosting this year's Mashujaa day," he said when he addressed journalists at Machakos town on Monday.
The MP observed that having the national fete celebrations in Machakos will open up the county to investments.
He said said the county has the capability of hosting national and even international events.
County governor Alfred Mutua who had a meeting with military officials on Monday said everything is set for the Thursday fete.
He said that the county government is closely working with the national government to guarantee success of the event.
Preparations for the Thursday fete are in top gear with security officials living nothing to chance.
A contingent of security personnel have been strategically placed at various sections of Machakos to guarantee safety ahead of the celebrations.
Renovations are also being done at the Machakos stadium where the event will take place.
A face lift has also been done on Mulu Mutisya grounds with green grass being planted with Mulu Mutisya statute set to be erected before the Thursday fete.
It is the first time the Mashujaa day fete is being celebrated outside Nairobi county.
In June during the Madaraka day celebrations at Afraha stadium in Nakuru, President Kenyatta announced that national fetes will be devolved to counties.
He said that each county will have a chance to host national days.
